In Eden Prairie, a city in the US state of Minnesota, a case of embezzlement is causing a stir. Christian Liam Schenk, co-founder of Crooked Beverage Company, is accused of diverting over $75,000 from the company he co-founded for personal purposes. The allegations include using business accounts for personal expenses and transferring nearly $48,000 to his own accounts after he resigned.
The investigation began after co-founder Ryan Winkler, a former lawmaker, reported suspicious transactions. Crooked Beverage, known for its THC-infused seltzers, was originally located in Eden Prairie but has since relocated. Winkler confirmed his role in the company and emphasized that it remains operational.
The investigation revealed that Schenk allegedly used company funds to purchase luxury items and household goods. He is also accused of forging emails to deceive business partners in a separate financial dispute. These deceptions are said to have helped him maintain the trust of his partners before the alleged thefts took place.
In an interview with police, Schenk said he took the money because he was angry and believed he was entitled to it. The charges include two counts of aggravated theft, each punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. The case is being prosecuted by the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office to avoid a conflict of interest in Hennepin County.
