Tennis pro Coco Gauff has spoken about having a boyfriend.
However, she has worked hard to keep her dating life private. That stands in contrast to her opponent in the French Open final, Aryna Sabalenka, who gushes about her own boyfriend on social media. Gauff ended up winning the match, with her mom watching from the stands.
Now Gauff is competing at the U.S. Open. On Sept. 1, 2025, she was scheduled to square off against Naomi Osaka.
Coco Gauff’s Boyfriend Is Named Jalen Sera, Per Reports
Although she has kept her boyfriend’s identity close to the vest, Town and Country reported that Gauff is dating Jalen Sera. He is from North Carolina but moved to Atlanta and is a twin, the site noted.
Sera’s Instagram page does not mention Gauff.
Gauff, 21, shared some details with People, although not her boyfriend’s name.
According to People, Gauff revealed that her boyfriend is not a tennis player but supported her in 2023 when she played in the US Open.
“Honestly, it wasn’t something I got to set in stone,” Gauff told People in 2024 of why she keeps her life so private. “I think I felt like I just, some parts of myself I love to share and then some parts I think I just keep to myself.”
In April 2024, Gauff confirmed to Time that she had a boyfriend, calling it her first real relationship.
Gauff “is transitioning to a new phase of her life” and was still living with her parents at that time, Time reported, quoting her as saying, “At first I was scared to grow up. But now I’m embracing adulthood and womanhood.”
Time reported that her mom still does her laundry and she doesn’t have a timeline for moving out. “I always say it’ll happen in my 20s at some point,” she told Time.
“It’s a lonely world,” her mom told Time of the pro tennis circuit since Gauff is so much younger than many players.
“Gauff has had a boyfriend for about a year, whose identity she prefers to keep private,” Time reported, adding that she revealed he is from Atlanta, and “is not famous.”
“This is my first real relationship,” Gauff said to Time. “To just have someone to talk to who is not involved in tennis at all gives me a fresh perspective.”
She also revealed to Time that her mom, Candi Gauff, was his fourth-grade teacher.
“My mom always said, if they’re bad in school, they’re probably bad as adults,” Candi told Time. “He’s always been a smart, nice kid.”
