Coldplay quietly changed one thing at their shows after that chaotic viral kiss cam moment

After a viral kiss cam moment at one of their recent shows led to unexpected fallout, Coldplay quietly adjusted how they handle things on tour.

At the band’s July 16 show at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, a man and a woman in the crowd were shown together on the venue’s jumbotron. In the video, the pair reacted awkwardly, neither smiling nor waving, but visibly uncomfortable. Chris Martin, seeing it all unfold in real time, commented from the stage: “Oh, look at these two. All right, c’mon. You’re okay… Oh, what? Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” The clip went viral very quickly.

That moment, and the speculation that followed, didn’t stay in the world of harmless concert banter. The man in the footage was Andy Byron, CEO of a tech company called Astronomer, which later confirmed it had launched a formal investigation. By July 19, the company announced that Byron had resigned, stating that its board had accepted his departure and reaffirming its expectations for leadership conduct. According to Axios, the delay in the public response came in part due to negotiations around Byron’s exit.

So, what changed at the next Coldplay show?

Later that same day Byron resigned, Coldplay took the stage again, this time at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin. It was their first show since the kiss cam drama, and Chris Martin didn’t ignore the moment.

As seen in a video from the concert, Martin gave a light introduction before the usual crowd camera segment: “We’d like to say hello to some of you in the crowd. How we’re gonna do that is we’re gonna use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.”

Then, with a grin, he added a playful warning: “So please, if you haven’t done your makeup, do your makeup now.”

This time, no couples were shown on the jumbotron at all. Just safe crowd shots, no romantic zoom-ins. Coldplay hasn’t made any formal statement about the change.
