Mexico City.- The Tlalpan Mayor’s Office will have a new veterinary clinic in the area of Coapa, one of the areas with the highest number of pets in the district. The announcement was made by the mayor Gaby Osorio, who maintained that to date around 700 free sterilizations of dogs and cats have been carried out, as part of the program Community Animals that drives his government.
During the Fourth Animal Welfare Fair, held at the Deportivo Rodolfo Sánchez Taboada, in Las Padiernas, Osorio highlighted that Tlalpan It is the only mayor’s office in Mexico City with a permanent program of care for community animals, supported by a budget and concrete actions. “There is no more human act than supporting those who do not have a voice; acting in congruence is doing so with public policy, social program and budget.”
The president reported that this year five animal welfare fairs will be held in different parts of the demarcation – towns, colonies of Coapa and Ajusco Medio—, with free sterilization, vaccination, deworming services, responsible adoptions, educational workshops and recreational activities.
“Osorio announced that his government is planning, together with civil associations, the development of the first public shelter for animals in Mexico City, whose planning would begin in 2027.”
In addition, he recalled that Tlalpan was the first mayor’s office to sign an agreement with the Environmental Crimes Prosecutor’s Office (FIDAMPU) of the Government of Mexico City, which allows speeding up care and rescue in cases of animal abuse.
Representatives of the Mexican Canophile Federationthe Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the UNAM and the Environmental and Territorial Planning Office (PAOT), with whom the mayor’s office maintains close collaboration to strengthen animal protection and well-being.
“We are a mayor’s office that acts with word and deed; we want animal welfare to be a permanent policy in Tlalpan,” concluded Mayor Osorio.
