Coronation Street seems to have hinted at a major character’s death in recent scenes with some unsettling foreshadowing.
Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) was met with a surprise for her anniversary at the beginning of the episode as she walked in on Gary Windass (Mikey North) putting up the shelves she wanted.
It soon became clear that it was their fifth wedding anniversary and Gary wanted to do something nice for her.
Unfortunately, Maria hadn’t got him so much as a card, so she made a quick stop at the Kabin to correct that.
To her disappointment, there wasn’t a great selection of cards, though her request for advice from Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine) did spark an interesting conversation.
When Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) overheard and pointed out that wood represents the fifth anniversary, Fiz teased Maria by asking her if she had bought Gary anything wooden.

Maria brushed it off, but Glenda suggested asking local undertaker George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) for a discount on a coffin.
Of course, Fiz and Maria burst out laughing, believing this to be a joke, but Glenda was quick to point out that it would save her a fortune in the long run.
Though Maria argued that it was a bit morbid, Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) recited a quote about being in the ‘midst of death’ at all times.
This got the Kabin customers thinking, and left us with a sense of unease.
Coronation Street is a dangerous place to live, and when people start discussing death, it usually only means one thing: Someone needs to watch their back…
With all this talk about buying coffins for Gary, could it be a sign that he may need one soon?

He’s certainly had some close shaves with death over the years, most recently when he was knocked unconscious by Lou Michaelis and left in a coma for weeks with a head injury.
Could someone with a vendetta against him be set to finish him off?
Gary has made plenty of enemies during his time in Weatherfield, especially during the period that saw him turn gangster and take out Rick Neelan.
Will someone from his past come back for revenge?
Or, could it be a more recent enemy?
While Maria was shopping for cards, Gary was planning to get revenge on Noah, the man who had subjected Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) to conversion therapy as a teenager.

He was waiting in the community centre with a hammer, where Maria later found him and encouraged him to vandalise the place instead of resorting to violence.
However, when Noah used the damage in a livestream to support his cause, Gary left the house under suspicious circumstances, only for Noah to later wind up in hospital.
Was Gary behind the attack that left Noah hospitalised? Could Noah be set to get his revenge?
Or, is it Noah that will need a coffin?
