Since her return from the dead this summer, Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) has caused nothing but trouble for wife Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and new fiancée Carla Connor (Alison King) in Coronation Street.
Lisa and Carla’s relationship hadn’t been an easy one, with the couple facing countless obstacles while also dealing with Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain’s (Sydney Martin) grief, but things were finally looking up for them – until Becky showed herself.
Her appearance came as a huge shock to Lisa, who believed she had been killed in a hit-and-run while on duty several years prior.
Becky explained that she had actually been living in witness protection after an undercover operation had gone wrong, though it is clear that Carla believes there is more to the story and Becky, along with DI Costello (Daon Broni), is hiding something.
With Carla currently away in Ireland, Becky has had unrestricted access to Lisa and Betsy, and it is clear that she is prepared to do whatever it takes to win back her wife.
The whole situation has proved confusing for Lisa, who recently confessed to Roy Cropper (David Neilson) that she still loved Becky, before insisting that it was Carla she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
Unfortunately, things continue to get more complicated when Carla returns next week, and Becky deliberately lets slip that she’s been staying at No.6 with Lisa and Betsy.
Carla’s insecurities only get worse when she finds the video of Becky and Lisa modelling Betsy’s designs, and tells Lisa she’s going home.
When Becky learns from Betsy that Carla has seen the video and isn’t happy, Becky spots her chance, and turns up at the Rovers, where she plays the song she and Lisa shared their wedding dance to.
Laying it on thick, Becky reminds Lisa of their vows and insists she meant every word, arguing that they were happy once and could be again.
Of course, this has left Swarla fans concerned for the couple’s future, though Metro readers have seemingly come up with a fool proof solution to get Becky out of their lives for good.
‘Put lock on door, stop her just walking in!’ Denis Hiles suggested, while Lucilla Cousins emphasised: ‘LOCK THE COWING DOOR.’
It has become somewhat of a habit for Becky to just walk into No.6 unannounced, much to Carla’s annoyance, and Metro readers can’t help but wonder if a lot of the issues would be prevented if they simply locked her out.
‘No one seems to lock the door in soaps,’ Jacqueline Shine pointed out, while Debbie Rudge questioned: ‘Why don’t they lock the door?’
This was a question I was also keen to know the answer to when I spoke to actress Sydney Martin at the Inside Soap Awards last month, and she informed me that it doesn’t look like the door will be locked any time soon!
‘I don’t think they continue to lock the door either,’ she confessed. ‘We should probably invest in a good lock system…
‘She does just wander in but it’s kind of funny. There’s a bit of comedy in there as well.’
Alongside her, Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton, defended the lack of security at No.6, explaining: ‘I feel like that’s quite a normal thing to do. Where I live we all just walk in and go and get a teabag, do you know what I mean? It’s just our normal day to day routine.’
Will Becky continue to wander in unannounced and cause all sorts of havoc, or will the Connor-Swains finally start locking their doors?
