Coronation Street fans let out a sigh of relief as Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) was finally sent to prison for her crimes earlier this week – but some Metro readers fear this isn’t the last we’ve seen of the twisted villain.
Becky first hit our screens as part of a major plot twist last summer, when she gave wife Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) the shock of her life.
Lisa and daughter Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) had been led to believe that Becky had been killed in a hit-and-run while on duty at the scene of a burglary nearly four years prior.
However, it transpired that she had actually been living in Spain under a different identity. She claimed that she had been part of an undercover operation into a dangerous gang, and had to fake her death when it went wrong, but over time it became clear that nothing she said could be trusted.
Becky was far more corrupt, and far more dangerous, than anyone had expected.
Her return to Lisa’s life came after she learnt of her engagement to Carla Connor (Alison King), and she wasted no time in trying to get her old life back.
She managed to manipulate her way back into Lisa and Betsy’s life, driving a wedge between Lisa and Carla which eventually led to their break-up.
Away from her family life, she had a criminal past to bury, and to ensure her secrets stayed hidden, she arranged for DI Costello (Daon Broni) to be attacked.
Little did she know, Carla and Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) were already getting closer to uncovering all of her lies.
When Becky caught Carla snooping around her flat for evidence, she kidnapped the factory boss and kept her locked in an airing cupboard for several weeks.
At the same time, she managed to convince Lisa and Betsy to run away with her to Spain, leaving Carla to die without access to her anti-rejection medication.
Thankfully, Kit managed to track Carla down, and the pair raced off after the Swains, with Carla making a call to Lisa to reveal the truth about Becky.

It was then that fate stepped in and their trip to the ferry port was cut short when they collided head-on with another car, causing a major pile-up. Once it was clear that all three Swains were going to be okay, Lisa arrested Becky for all of her crimes, including fraud and kidnapping.
However, Becky wasn’t going to go down without a fight, and told Lisa when she visited her in prison that she planned to paint her as an accessory and drag her down with her.
When Betsy learnt about this plan, she too paid Becky a visit, and tore into her, telling her she wished she really had died.
This was obviously a sobering moment for Becky, who later pleaded guilty without so much as mentioning Lisa, and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
While this came as a relief to most viewers, some Metro readers, like Irene, ‘don’t think this is the end of this storyline’.
In fact, several Corrie fans have speculated that Becky may stage an escape from prison and come after Carla and Lisa for revenge.
‘See her in 2 years when she escapes to get revenge,’ James commented on Facebook, while Kitt added: ‘No doubt there will be a twist, let me guess she escapes from prison and comes back to the street… In a revenge plot after Carla and Lisa…’
While Roy – no, not that one – speculated that, ‘She breaks out of prison and kills Carla’, Robert had an entire story arc mapped out.
‘No doubt Becky will escape in no time at all. She’ll come back to Coronation Street and take someone hostage. Then Betsy will kill her in an act of self-defence. Subsequently, Becky will emerge in another soap,’ he theorised.
Though others are hopeful there will be no prison escapes in Becky’s future, there are some who fear that she will set her sights on Lisa again as soon as she is released for good behaviour in six years.
‘Lisa said last night Becky out of our lives for good but if she got twelve years she will do half of that so she will be back for her,’ Janet pointed out.
So, have we really seen the last of Becky? Or are Metro readers right to worry?
