Costco Wholesale is once again a topic of conversation after revealing its ambitious expansion plan in Mexico, which includes the opening of a new store in Mexico City. The news was confirmed by the Finance Director of Costco Mexico, Mauricio Talayero, during his participation in Retail Day Mexico 2025, where he detailed that the project is part of a 20-year strategy to strengthen the brand’s presence in the country.

According to Talayero, Mexico currently represents Costco’s most profitable market globally, since between 2010 and 2020 the company doubled its sales, and this trend was repeated between 2020 and 2024. Despite the challenges faced – such as the renegotiation of the Free Trade Agreement and tax audits – the company maintains its commitment to growth in Mexican territory.
The plan includes new branches in states where Costco already operates and expansion into four new entities: Durango, Tamaulipas, Guanajuato and Hidalgo. However, One of the most anticipated openings is the new store in Mexico City, which will join the five existing ones in Lindavista, Polanco, Mixcoac, Villa Coapa and Santa Fe.
The new headquarters will be located at number 3443 Division del Norte Avenue, in the Coyoacán mayor’s office. Construction is expected to begin in January 2026 and, according to estimates from specialized portals, the complex could be ready to open its doors in the second half of the same year.
Additionally, Costco plans to add at least six more stores in the Valley of Mexico Metropolitan Area over the next two decades. Although the exact locations and dates have not yet been confirmed, the company promises to reveal more details as this ambitious expansion plan progresses.
