An American country singer is trying to squash the lingering romance rumors involving Keith Urban and guitarist Maggie Baugh.
In a feature published this week by Taste of Country, Alexandra Kay said there’s no truth to the whispers that Baugh, her friend, is in a relationship with Urban, who is currently undergoing a divorce from his wife, Nicole Kidman.
“Honestly, I was heartbroken for them because the media scrutiny is insane and the things that people say … They’re like, stirring up rumors about Maggie Baugh, and I’m like, ‘She’s a good friend of mine and I know that’s absolutely not true,’ ” Kay told Taste of Country.
Baugh, 25, has been performing on stage with Urban this fall. Chatter about the status of their relationship got louder after Urban, 57, changed the lyrics of his hit song “The Fighter” to reference Baugh during a recent show.
But while Baugh’s musical profile has grown serving as Urban’s “utility player” at concerts, there is nothing else going on between the two of them, Kay said.
In fact, Baugh is apparently already in a relationship with someone else.
“I’ve met her boyfriend, and she’s very happy, and she has nothing to do with that whole relationship [with Urban],” Kay explained.
“I feel sad for everybody involved that people are doing that and picking apart their personal life. I pray for peace for them and for everybody to have their privacy.”
Urban, Kidman headed toward divorce
Kidman, 58, filed for divorce from Urban on Sept. 30, citing “irreconcilable differences” and putting the date of separation as the day of the filing.
The Batman Forever actress and the “You’ll Think of Me” singer were married for 19 years and share two daughters, Sunday, 17 and Faith, 14.
At the time, TMZ reported that “all the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman” and that Kidman was “still shocked over it.” However, there has still been no definitive confirmation of a new love interest for the “For You” crooner.
“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” said Page Six when news of the divorce filing broke.
