The biggest horror movie of the year is officially getting a prequel and we’re already absolutely terrified.
Weapons hit our screens last month, transporting us all to the creepy Pennsylvania town of Maybrook, where 17 children from one class suddenly ran from their homes at exactly 2:17am.
The disappearance rocked the town and the families of the missing children, who pointed fingers at their teacher, Justine Gandy (Julia Garner), and Alex, the one remaining child who didn’t vanish.
Without giving too much away, the incident coincided with the arrival of Alex’s sinister ‘relative’, Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan), and her otherworldly powers.
After the huge success of the flick, it was claimed that Warner Brothers bosses were considering a prequel focusing on the scene-stealing Aunt Gladys – director Zach Creggar has now confirmed that the rumors are true.
‘I was ready,’ he teased of where the idea came from. ‘I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.’

‘It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bulls**t.’
Touching on the huge reaction Weapons was met with, and the near-perfect 94% Rotten Tomatoes score, Zach admitted that it hadn’t quite sunk in yet.
‘It feels great. I don’t know how else to describe it. I can’t let myself bask too much because then somehow I feel like the universe is just going to take it away,’ he added to Fangoria.
‘But I couldn’t be more happy with how Weapons has turned out. I’m so proud of it.’

Fans raved about Weapons from the second that the trailer dropped earlier this year, with the footage leaving some ‘struggling to sleep’.
The positive reviews poured in on social media following the release, and many hailed it as the ‘best horror movie of the year’.
Amy’s performance was highly praised, with a Twitter user declaring: ‘We need to give Amy Madigan an Oscar nomination for her performance as Aunt Gladys it was camp but also so creepy and disturbing.’
She previously addressed the possibility of reprising her role as Aunt Gladys after the huge reaction, and shared that she had a ‘great time’ working with Zach and co for the movie.

‘It’s not that I discount it, but in this business, nothing’s real ’til it’s real,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.
‘I just had such a great time working with Zach and being inside that brain of his. That’s really the gift of how the movie came out.
‘The other stuff has to do with all sorts of conversations that I would never be privy in and business things like that.
‘But I love Gladys, so I’ll leave it at that.’
