The discovery of a creature with injuries in the Colinas del Sol subdivision exhibits the crisis of abandonment, insecurity and corruption that afflicts this development

The silence of the afternoon was broken by horror in the Colinas del Sol subdivision, in Almoloya de Juárez. A group of neighbors who were walking on Volcán Socorro Avenue discovered a fetus which was devoured by several stray dogs.

The shocking scene forced witnesses to immediately call local authorities.

Minutes later, municipal security elements and paramedics confirmed the presence of human remains with visible injuries to the skull and extremities.

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) carried out the survey and transfer to the Forensic Medical Service to determine the causes of death and initiate investigations. As of press time, no arrests have been reported.

The fact has once again highlighted the precariousness experienced by the more than 10,000 residents of this subdivision built in 2011 by Constructora Profusa, highlighted by non-compliance and alleged irregularities in the original project. What was once sold as a “model community” has been transformed into a forgotten urban complex, without lighting, with destroyed streets and an environment dominated by fear.

“We live in darkness. On my street the neighbors put improvised lamps because the lighting has not worked for years. The police only come by when something has already happened,” says Teresa Ríos, a resident of the area, visibly shocked by the discovery.

Deficiencies in public services are multiplying. There is no constant garbage collection, green areas look abandoned and parks have become improvised garbage dumps. The few security cameras installed by the state Security Secretariat are out of service, and patrols, residents say, are becoming less and less frequent.

Neighbors report daily robberies, drug sales and attacks without any institutional response. Given the vacuum of authority, neighborhood WhatsApp groups have become the only alert and coordination tool.
