CSRA celebrates Juneteenth 2025 with various festivals, events

CSRA (WJBF) – Juneteenth is a federal holiday that commemorates the emancipation of slaves in Galveston, Texas. It was officially signed into law in 2021.

Although President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation (freeing slaves) in 1863, the news didn’t reach those in the Lone Star State until June 19th, 1865.

So now, many African-Americans and allies celebrate June 19th as a second “independence” day.

There are several events happening across the CSRA throughout the month of June to honor the holiday and and educate people.
