The period to process the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) with biometric data began last October 16 of this year in all the states of the Mexican Republic, as established in the publication of July 16 in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
The objective of this new document is to reinforce data security for the Mexican population, as well as streamline government and public services procedures, reducing the risk of identity theft.

The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguezdeclared that “This new identity document will expand the possibilities of Mexicans to identify themselves, even from childhood.”
The CURP with biometric data can be processed in person at the physical offices of the Civil Registry or in one of the 145 modules of the National Population Registry (RENAPO)from Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
You can also do it online through the Llave MX digital platform, as long as you have data registered with other agencies, such as the National Electoral Institute (INE) or the Tax Administration Service (SAT).
For this procedure, in addition to the traditional data required, such as date and place of birth, full name and population registration number, this new document would include the following biometric data:
- Digital photograph of our face
- iris scan
- Fingerprints
- Electronic signature

- Bank account opening
- Public healthcare
- Labor hiring
- School registrations
- Registration in social programs
The CURP with biometric data will allow immediate identification before authorities or institutions without the need to carry multiple documents. In addition, the system will use national servers to avoid the use of data on foreign platforms.
This document will be a key tool to simplify bureaucratic processes, reduce identity theft and improve security in the identification of people, thus preventing fraud in organizations and institutions in the public and private sectors.
