- Dame Helen Mirren is reportedly frustrated with Tom Hardy’s behaviour on the set of the series MobLand
- Sources claim Hardy’s lateness and perceived unprofessional conduct have caused tension between the two stars
- Previous reports have highlighted similar on-set disputes involving Hardy, such as with Charlize Theron during Mad Max filming
The stars of gritty British crime drama, MobLand, are reportedly clashing in real life as they film the second series.
Dame Helen Mirren, 80, who plays the powerful matriarch of one warring crime family, is said to be struggling with the behaviour of Tom Hardy on set.
Hardy, 48, is back for more gangster antics as he plays top fixer, Harry Da Souza – a character you wouldn’t want to cross.
Some of his behaviour is far from pleasant on screen, and Dame Helen is said to not be impressed with how he’s acting behind the cameras.
Sources from the set of the show told The Daily Mail that Dame Helen is getting ‘increasingly frustrated with Tom and his attitude’.
They claimed that Hardy ‘can be late to filming’ which is ‘annoying for Dame Helen, who is extremely professional and disciplined’.
Dame Helen has been acting for around sixty years, starting her career playing Cleopatra with the National Youth Theatre in 1965.
Since then, she’s become one of the country’s most legendary actors, playing characters from the iconic DCI Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect, to Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen.
The source continued: ‘His tone is something Dame Helen doesn’t like, along with his lateness.
‘She expects better,’ they revealed, before adding: ‘The behind-the-scenes crew watch it all and believe that she no longer looks as happy working on scenes with him. It has all become quite personal between them.
‘It feels like Tom is winding her [Dame Helen] up’, the source alleged.
Another insider said Hardy can be found playing games on his phone.
Hardy, who stars as Alfie Solomons in Peaky Blinders, is married to Charlotte Riley, who he met while filming Wuthering Heights in 2009.
The actor is said to get cross behind the scenes, according to another source who spoke to the Daily Mail.
His behaviour on set has been the subject of reports before, after a feud developed between Hardy and Charlize Theron while filming for Mad Max: Fury Road, partly fuelled by Hardy’s lateness, as well as his behaviour on set. The latter leading to Theron requesting on-set protection.
Hardy later reflected in a book by reporter Kylie Buchanan that he was ‘in over his head’ in many ways, and Theron needed a ‘better, perhaps more experienced partner’.
