When the FDA issues a recall, consumers need to check their purchases. With the newest announcement, the governmental agency expands a previously issued recall. Another ground cinnamon brand could potentially contain dangerous lead.
Although FDA recalls can be alarming, the notifications are designed to foster confidence in the food system. Testing, monitoring and due diligence are vital. Both voluntary and involuntary recalls keep dangerous food off the table. These systems continue even after the initial announcement is made. This ground cinnamon recall is an example.
An Additional Brand Under Ground Cinnamon Recall
According to the FDA announcement updated on September 12, 2025, Jiva Organic ground cinnamon was found to contain dangerous lead levels. The tested retail samples had a 2.29 lead concentration.
Distributed by Spicy World of USA and sold at TAJ SUPERMARKET, the ground cinnamon packages have a best by date of “Best Before: July 2025.” Additionally, the lot code was AF-CINP/822. According to the label, the spice is identified as “Organic Cinnamon Powder.”
FDA
The Jiva Organic item joins the 11 other ground cinnamon offerings that were previously voluntarily recalled. The original FDA recall began on March 6, 2024. It has been updated several times to include additional brands.
If any consumer has a package of Jiva Organic ground cinnamon in their possession, they should immediately dispose of it. Additionally, the FDA recommends that consumers should not purchase any of the listed spices. It is unclear if any of the recalled items are still available for purchase.
At present, no illnesses or other health problems have been reported. The FDA continues to monitor the situation.

Lead Exposure Concerns
The ongoing FDA recall of ground cinnamon is important since spices can have a longer shelf life than some perishable food. High lead levels are concerning for both for the initial exposure and for its prolonged effects.
According to the FDA release, long-term exposure, measured in months and years, can negatively impact a person’s health. Factors such as age, previous exposure and overall length of time can increase the adverse effects of lead exposure.
The focus on ground cinnamon testing came after the WanaBana apple puree and applesauce products in 2023. Governmental agencies prioritized testing spices, specifically ground cinnamon for lead.
Based on the latest FDA announcement, consumers should remain diligent in monitoring their food purchases. A safe food system requires all participants to remain aware.
