Dangerous heat wave continues | VIPIR 6 ALERT DAYS Sunday & Monday

Saturday night update: The heat is on across the CSRA, and it’s not letting up anytime soon. High pressure remains firmly parked over the region, setting the stage for some of the hottest and most uncomfortable weather we’ve seen this year.

Temps won’t drop much tonight, with overnight lows staying in the upper 70s to near 80°. That might not sound like a big deal, but in our part of the country, it’s rare to see nighttime temps this high.

Heat Advisory in effect Sunday into Monday morning

Highs on Sunday will soar into the low 100s, with the heat index (what it feels like) approaching 112°. A VIPIR 6 Alert Day goes into effect as heat-related illnesses become a real concern, especially for those outdoors for long periods. Even overnight, it’ll stay hot and muggy, with little relief once the sun goes down.

Extreme Heat Watch for Monday

Looking ahead to Monday, VIPIR 6 Alert Day remains in effect as things could get even hotter. Heat index values may approach 113°, pushing us into Extreme Heat territory. That said, there’s a bit of uncertainty: more moisture and a slight weakness in the high-pressure ridge could spark a few isolated storms, especially later in the day. Even so, it’ll remain dangerously hot, so take precautions now.

What You Can Do:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Limit time outdoors, especially in the afternoon
  • Check on kids, the elderly, and pets
  • NEVER leave anyone in a parked car
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke

Heat relief on the horizon!

We will see the pattern change going into the second half of the week with an increase in showers and storms. This will in return knock our temperatures back down into the low to mid 90s. Even cooler air arrives next weekend with highs only in the mid 80s!
