Dricus du Plessis is all set to once again put his title on the line when he heads in the what will be his third fight in defence of his UFC middleweight belt next weekend.
Du Plessis will front up against highly-regarded Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319 on 16 August in Chicago, USA, but there are some very important points to note for those wanting to watch this fight in South Africa.
Due to the time difference, the main card is scheduled to start from 04:00 (SA time) next Sunday morning.
That exact time of the main event will also be determined by the length of the preliminary fights prior to the Du Plessis-Chimaev bout. However, it would be a safe bet to set those alarm clocks and wake up early enough to ensure you don’t miss this highly-anticipated fight.
Dricus du Plessis is on the hunt for another piece of history
Although there have been plenty of rumours around whether Du Plessis and Chimaev would end up going head to head, the South African star has always maintained that this is the fight he was happy to prioritise in what would be an incredible third successive title defence.
After first famously claiming the middleweight belt against Sean Strickland, Du Plessis then backed that up with an emphatic victory over Israel Adesanya.
The 31-year-old then once again overcame Strickland in the ‘rematch’ in February, and he now heads towards his third title defence against the unbeaten Chimaev, who has eight wins inside the octagon, six by stoppage.
Du Plessis (23-2) has in fact not lost since October 2018, and will attempt to knock Chimaev from the ranks of the unbeaten.
Chimaev (14-0) is coming off a first-round submission of Whittaker in October and has also taken down the likes of Gilbert Burns and Kamaru Usman.
