It appears David Harbour is still somewhat living out his life as stepdad to Lily Allen’s two children, even after the release of her hugely revealing album, West End Girl.
The Smile hitmaker, 40, had jaws on the floor across the UK on Friday when she released her first record in seven years, and in it appeared to lay bare her former marriage with the Stranger Things actor, 50.
In songs including Madeline and Tennis, Lily accused her ex-husband of cheating, gaslighting, lying and contemplated whether he was a ‘sex addict’ after she found his ‘Pussy Palace’, including what she described as a bag full of sex toys.
Lily also repeatedly asked on her album, ‘Who is Madeline?’, a question which has since been answered by costume designer Natalie Tippett, who allegedly had an affair with David behind Lily’s back after they met while shooting Netflix film We Have A Ghost in 2021.
While Lily has remained tight-lipped on her current situation with her ex-husband, the album didn’t hold back in its descriptions of him.
Many have waited for David to speak out following the almighty record drop, but so far it’s steely silence from the actor, who will likely be keeping his head under the sand until he is forced to emerge for the Stranger Things press tour to promote season 5 of the Netflix hit, due to be released in November.
However, what no one was expecting after Lily’s reproving lyrics dropped, was that David would be pictured seemingly enjoying a day out with Lily’s two children – Ethel, 13, and Marnie, 12 – at Universal Epic Universe theme park.
In a video posted on TikTok, with the poster claiming the footage was taken this weekend after Lily’s album drop, David is seen wearing a red Super Mario t-shirt and bucket hat while out and about with the two girls, looking as chirpy as ever despite the whole world talking about his bedroom antics.
Lily, who says the album is a mix of fact and fiction, was previously asked by Vogue if David was planning on continuing his stepfather role to her kids.
The mother-of-two replied ‘you’ll have to ask him’.
Lily and David confirmed in February that they were divorcing, having married in a low-key Vegas wedding in 2020.
What did Lily Allen appear to say about David Harbour in West End Girl?
In West End Girl, Lily appeared to reveal that they were in some version of an open relationship, but accused David of pushing the boundaries of this by cheating on her.
‘We had an arrangement/ Be discreet and don’t be blatant/ It had to be with strangers,’ she sings, before describing her discovery of a woman who she refers to as Madeline.
While Lily previously said she’d like to have children with David, in the album – which was met with rave reviews – the star sings about her husband considering getting a vasectomy, as she wonders whether he’d got a woman pregnant that’s not her.
She also sings in Pussy Palace that she ‘found a shoebox full of handwritten letters /From brokenhearted women wishing you could have been better’ in an apartment owned by David in New York, which she said was evidence of his ‘double life’.
Lily also sings about finding a bag full of ’sex toys, butt plugs, and lube inside’.
In the titular track, Lily described David’s ‘demeanour’ changing after she got a part in West End play, 2:22 A Ghost Story.
David previously revealed Lily’s daughters – who she welcomed with first husband Sam Cooper – prompted him to propose to the singer.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2021, David said: ‘At the beginning of the pandemic and we were riding bikes out in the country trying to figure out what we were gonna do for the next year or however long it was going to take,’ he said.
‘And the little one was riding along and she was going like, “David, dad, David, dad”. Because the D got her confused. And the older one got very upset with that, which I understand. She was like, “He’s not our dad!”
‘And then the younger one was like, “Well what is he? He’s kind of our dad.” She’s like, “No he’s not, he’s our stepdad.” And she goes, “What is he?” And she goes, “He’s just some guy in our lives!”
‘I was like, I need to marry this woman,’ Harbour continued. ‘Because the emotional fallout… That’s one of my favourite things I’ve ever been called. “Just some guy in our lives.” Nine years old going on 35.’
Reflecting on the split this year, David told GQ he was putting his energies into his acting career.
David said: ‘It’s not that things ending aren’t hard, but it’s just that I’m choosing to make it a period of growth. And I feel like having the opportunity to be busy and work is really good. I’m learning how to swim in this, whatever it is. Learning how to float. Learning how to make it not about me.’
Meanwhile Lily, who has been sober since 2019, reflected in an interview with British Vogue that the breakdown of their marriage made her feel suicidal.
‘The feelings of despair that I was experiencing were so strong,’ she said in the interview.
‘The last time that I felt anything like that, drugs and alcohol were my way out, so it was excruciating to sit with those [feelings] and not to use them.’
