EastEnders spoilers follow for Wednesday’s (September 17) episode that is now available to view on BBC iPlayer. The episode in question will air on BBC One on at 7:30pm.

Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) determination to find out whether Greg (Dean Williamson) had died following his altercation with Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) has backfired big time as the latest instalment of EastEnders found him holding Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) hostage with a screwdriver held to her neck.

Viewers were introduced to shady Greg through flashbacks, detailing what’d happened to Zoe during her time away from the Square. In 2006, Zoe gave birth to twins – a boy and a girl – although, sadly, the girl didn’t survive.

Zoe told nurses that she’d be giving her baby boy up for adoption before bolting from the hospital.

She later met Max Branning (Jake Wood), with the two bonding over their shared estrangement from their children, with Max offering to provide funds for Zoe to continue paying a dodgy private investigator she’d employed to track down her son.

Though Zoe supplied £5,000 that Max provided via a pawned necklace, Greg dropped only tiny bits of information, demanding further payments for the full scope of what he’d discovered. Things turned physical when Greg tried to force himself on Zoe, who smashed a lampshade off his head and ran.

In the aftermath of Zoe’s shooting and with her wider family unaware that Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) was behind it, Freddie Slater (Bobby Brazier) intervention meant the story was spread online and featured in the Walford Gazette, leaving Zoe fearful that, had Greg survived their encounter, he’d be coming for her.

Finding Zoe trying to run once more, Stacey took the lead and determined to discover Greg’s fate. As they waited outside Greg’s flat, Zoe opened up more about the confrontation, revealing to Stacey that Greg had tried to sexually assault her.

Spotting a very-much alive Greg, Stacey confronted him, but was cowed by Greg’s fury. As he spat that Stacey knew nothing of what Zoe had done and demanded his money, she returned to the car and sped away.

Stacey tried to push Zoe to go to the police, but Zoe turned ice cold, promised to deny knowledge of anything, making Stacey look ‘unhinged’, cruelly remarking that, with Stacey’s history, she shouldn’t risk it.

Later, Stacey decided to include Kat in the discussion, causing Zoe to chase after her to the pub. When they arrived, however, they found Kat, held tightly by Greg, with a weapon pointing directly to her neck.

Can Zoe and Stacey save Kat? Will Greg spill even more secrets that Zoe is desperate to keep hidden?
