Delta Air Lines Is Stopping Flights From 1 U.S. Airport

  • Delta Air Lines celebrates its 100th year of flying this year.
  • Delta Air Lines will permanently shut down service at Midland International Air and Space Port (MAF), according to PennLive.
  • According to the Associated Press, “the World Travel & Tourism Council projected ahead of Memorial Day that the U.S. would be the only country among the 184 it studied where foreign visitor spending would fall in 2025.”

The busy holiday travel season is coming up soon, and Delta Air Lines has been making some changes ahead of the peak travel season. Even though travelers fly year-round, the busiest time for airlines is obviously around the holidays, and with Thanksgiving and Christmas on the way, airlines are gearing up for that peak travel time.

Delta Air Lines celebrates its 100th year of flying this year. They’re one of the largest airlines in the United States and, according to Delta, assist 200 million travelers in traveling to more than 350 destinations each year. Delta states on their official website, “We remain committed to ensuring that the future of travel is connected, personalized and enjoyable.”

But, Delta travelers in West Texas will be without some Delta airport options this holiday season. As PennLive notes, “beginning this November, the airline will permanently shut down service at Midland International Air and Space Port (MAF), ending the three daily flights it launched last year to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS).” PennLive adds that the changes are “all due to Delta adjusting its network to match demand.”

“While I am disappointed to learn that Delta Airlines will no longer be servicing our airport, it does not diminish our commitment to ensuring Midland International Air & Space Port continues to thrive and meet the needs of our residents and those traveling through the Permian Basin,” councilwoman Robin Poole, the City Council’s liaison to the airports department, said in a statement to Alesandra Dubin of Yahoo Creators.

“Midlanders can expect us to remain focused on supporting improvements and expansion efforts that will strengthen our airport’s role as a vital hub for our community and our region,” Poole added in the statement. “Air service is essential, and I will continue working alongside my colleagues, city staff, and our partners to bring more options and better connections to Midland.”

All airlines will welcome the business this holiday season after having a light year for travel. International travel to the United States has taken a major hit this year, and according to the Associated Press, “the World Travel & Tourism Council projected ahead of Memorial Day that the U.S. would be the only country among the 184 it studied where foreign visitor spending would fall in 2025.”
