Delta Air Lines is one of the largest airlines in the United States, and it’s also one of the most relied-upon airlines for international travels. Each years, millions of people rely on Delta to get to and from their destinations for both work and vacation travel.
It’s pretty mind-blowing just how many people fly on Delta each year. According to the airline, Delta helps 200 million travelers to more than 350 vacation spots annually. “We remain committed to ensuring that the future of travel is connected, personalized and enjoyable,” the company states on their official website.
Delta Ending Route After Roughly 9 Years
Now, Delta is being directed to end a route that they’ve had in place for roughly 9 years. On Monday, September 15, the administration announced that it will be ordering Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico to put an end to their joint venture by Jan. 1, which allowed the airlines to coordinate scheduling, pricing and capacity decisions for U.S. and Mexico flights.
According to Reuters, the department said that this move “is necessary because of ongoing anticompetitive effects in U.S.-Mexico City markets that provide an unfair advantage to Delta and Aeromexico.”
“The final JFK–Brussels flight departs January 5, 2026, with the return from Belgium the following day,” notes Time Out. “For now, Delta runs the route four times a week using a Boeing 767-300ER, but after the cut, the only direct option from JFK will come via Brussels Airlines.”
In more route news, Delta Air Lines is scheduled to “launch new service to Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) in Sardinia, Italy, beginning May 20, 2026, and to Malta International Airport (MLA) in Malta starting June 7, 2026, the airline confirmed,” according to Travel and Leisure. “More than just stunning scenery, Sardinia is one of the world’s five official Blue Zones, where people often live past 100, thanks to a lifestyle that blends good food, active living, and strong community ties,” Delta Air Lines stated in a press release.
Delta Air Lines also announced on Thursday, Sept. 18, that they will hold a live conference call and webcast to talk about its September quarter 2025 financial results at 10 a.m. ET, Thursday, Oct. 9, 2025.
So, those who are used to utilizing that Delta and Aeromexico flight option should start looking now for alternatives.
