Denis Shapovalov gave the world’s number one tennis player, Jannik Sinner, a tough match at the U.S. Open on Aug. 30.
That has increased the spotlight on Shapovalov. The Canadian, who turned pro in 2017, is ranked 29th in the world among men’s tennis players, according to the ATP Tour.
Shapovalov is part of a tennis power couple, although he is ranked much higher than his girlfriend. His girlfriend, Mirjam Bjorklund, 27, is a professional tennis player from Sweden, and is ranked 627th in the world, her WTA bio says.

The Couple Met Each Other Playing Junior Tennis, Reports Say
The couple met while playing junior tennis, according to a profile on them by the ATP Tour.
“We knew each other a little bit in juniors but not a lot. He was doing a lot better than I was, so I would just see his name in the finals and I would be on a flight back home, but I didn’t know him personally at that time,” Bjorklund said in that article. “We got to know each other a couple years later.”
They started dating in 2019, according to that site.
“Denis can’t be around all the time when I’m playing events, so it’s super nice to have him support me in the box and I think he has a great eye for my game and for tennis in general, so I really trust him when he tells me things and when he coaches me, but he’s very keen on the fact that he’s not my coach,” said Bjorklund, to the ATP Tour.
