Poor Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was caught off guard in shocking Coronation Street scenes today when he was attacked by a stranger.
Viewers will know that café owner Roy would never be able to get on anyone’s bad side, so when the mystery man wandered into the café with a bunch of flowers, it came as a complete surprise when he suddenly turned violent.
He headed straight to Roy and told him that he’d sent the flowers to his wife, before punching him in the face!
Over the past few weeks, Roy has been writing letters to pen pal Alice, after she reached out to him to thank him for writing to her son in prison.
Since then, their relationship has progressed to frequent texts, and it is clear that Roy has started to develop feelings for her.
However, she clearly failed to mention that she was already married.
And so, after finding the texts in recent scenes and now the flowers Roy sent, furious husband Mal came to confront him himself.
Fortunately, Roy had lots of friends on hand to defend him, vouching for him when he said that he would never knowingly pursue a married woman.
He explained that he and Alice had arranged to meet the previous week but they’d had to cancel, so he had sent the flowers as an apology.
Mary Taylor (Patti Clare) assured Mal that Roy was a gentleman, and when Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) agreed, Mal began to realise that Roy was telling the truth, and Alice hadn’t told him about her husband.
He lamented how they’d been married for 31 years and had three children together, before apologising to Roy for hitting him.

Now, with Roy having learnt the truth about Alice, how will he move forward? Will he continue on his search for love, or will this incident put him off for good?
