Music mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs now officially knows how long he will have to remain behind bars.
Combs’ official prison release date is May 8, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ online database, via multiple outlets Monday. The Bad Boy Records founder was sentenced to 50 months in prison earlier this month after being found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Combs has been locked up at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. since September 2024, when he was first indicted on sex trafficking, racketeering and prostitution charges.
Back in July, a jury cleared Combs of sex trafficking and racketeering, but found him guilty on the less serious counts of prosecution. He faced a maximum of 20 years behind bars but U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian ordered Combs to serve just over four years at his sentencing hearing on Oct. 3.
Combs was also commanded to pay a $500,000 fine and undergo treatment for his health and substance abuse issues. The 55-year-old entertainer is appealing his conviction, with his lawyers filing a notice of appeal in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Oct. 20.
Combs has been targeted in jail, friend claims
Combs’ lawyers have also been attempting to get him transferred out of Metropolitan Detention Center and placed into New Jersey’s Fort Dix prison, arguing that he would be able to best “address drug abuse issues” and “maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts” at the facility.
During a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Charlucci Finney, Combs’ longtime friend, claims the rapper woke up in jail with a knife at his throat after an inmate broke into his cell.
“He woke up with a knife to his throat,” Finney said. “I don’t know whether he fought him off or the guards came. I just know it happened.”
“If this guy had wanted to harm him, Sean would have been harmed,” Finney added, saying that the attack was more of a warning. “It would only take a second to cut his throat with a weapon and kill him.”
