Does Brad Pitt Have ‘Beef’ With Shania Twain Over Famous Song Lyric?

Brad Pitt and Shania Twain are forever linked, and not because they once dated or are even close friends.

Twenty-eight years ago next week, Twain dropped her third studio album, Come On Over. One of the album’s biggest hits, the song “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” which was officially released in 1998, features a nod to Pitt in its lyrics.

“OK, so you’re Brad Pitt?/That don’t impress me much,” Twain sings on the track.

Because Pitt was name-dropped in not exactly a flattering way, many have wondered if he and the Canadian-born Twain have a personal “beef” of sorts.

Twain told the truth on the matter in a new interview with Australia’s “Will & Woody” radio show this week.

“We’ve never met,” Twain said Monday, via the New York Post. “I mean, there’s a lot of Hollywood celebrities I’ve never met.”

Why Brad Pitt? Shania explains

There was no personal animosity behind Twain’s decision to shout out Pitt in “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”

It was simply a sign of the times, she told “Will & Woody.”

“I was thinking, okay, everybody in the world is in love with Brad Pitt right now. There were nude photos of him, and everybody was gaga over that,” Twain explained. “And I’m thinking, okay, if there is anyone that is making an impression on everyone…and that’s why I picked on him.”

Considering “That Don’t Impress Me Much” became Twain’s third-biggest single on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit the top 10 in 16 different countries, perhaps Pitt should look at his inclusion as a badge of pride.

Pitt has addressed the mention before

In 2022, Twain changed the lyric to include actor Ryan Reynolds’ name instead of Pitt’s, prompting a reaction from the F1 star.

“I think we can share the wealth there,” Pitt said about the switch. “Yeah, Ryan’s a good egg, too. He deserves some love.”

Pitt went on to joke about using other actors’ names in the song as a rite of passage.

“I think they oughta pass it on down, and next time she oughta sing it to Austin Butler,” he said. “Maybe Leo [DiCaprio] in between and then Austin Butler.”

‘That leopard print chick’

Twain also joked that Pitt “must be impressed” with her during her Australian radio appearance this week, because “that leopard print chick can chop wood and use a chainsaw.”

“Move your own fallen tree out of the road!” Twain said. “I don’t know, maybe he’ll think of me if that ever happens to him. ‘Oh, maybe, I’d better call Shania and ask her how to do this.’”
