The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has charged again this Wednesday against Spain and the Government of Pedro Sanchez for being the only NATO country that has decided not to commit to increasing defense spending to 5% of GDP: Spain does not “play as a team.”

The American magnate has expressed himself in these terms again a week after he threatened the Spanish Executive with new tariffs. This time he did it together with the secretary general of the Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, after holding a meeting at the White House.

In a speech in the Oval Office, Trump said that the NATO leader “is going to have to talk to Spain,” although he is confident that increasing Spanish commitment is something that Rutte “can easily resolve.”
