Donald Trump’s Charlie Kirk video dragged for having completely bizarre editing error

One of the most vocal allies of Donald Trump and his administration, the right wing influencer Charlie Kirk, was last night fatally shot whilst speaking on campus in Utah. Donald Trump has led an outpouring of grief for Charlie Kirk from the right of the political spectrum, and was quick to release a video where he spoke out for Charlie and his family after the shooting. But what was meant to be a video that felt official in such a serious time with such emotional responses has been marred with accusations of AI and editing – with some even going as far to claim it’s not actually Donald Trump in the Charlie Kirk video and that it’s a deepfake after major editing error.

Last night, Trump released a video statement

Donald Trump released a video after Charlie Kirk was shot dead, and addressed the nation discussing his grief for one of his most outspoken (and controversial) allies. But the subject matter of the Charlie Kirk video was completely overshadowed by accusations of a major editing error and claims that it wasn’t even Donald Trump talking in the video at all.

One video slowed down the moment Donald Trump moves his hands in the Charlie Kirk video and there is a moment where his finger appears to get swallowed up into his hand before reappearing.

This has led to claims of the video being “deepfaked”. One critic on Twitter / X, @MattBinder, wrote: “His body and hands barely move for the entire video. Also…they missed this weird glitch… what’s going on here?”

There’s another shot where the trees outside the window behind Trump look like they lift up and down too. One explanation for this that isn’t that the video was deepfaked or made using AI is the claim that the speech had been edited with a morph transition, which is a commonly used video-editing technique used to seamlessly merge disjointed segments.

Charlie Kirk was shot yesterday whilst on tour at a college campus in Utah. The shooting has caused political carnage in the United States and beyond – as Kirk was such a polarising figure. Donald Trump has called out the far-left for the shooting and called it “a dark moment for America”.
