Drag Race queens call out the show for repeatedly not crowning a Latin winner

In the wake of the backlash to Ginger Minj winning All Stars 10, from not only viewers of Drag Race but alumni queens themselves, the discourse and discussion has reached new heights as the fandom takes the show to task. The episode where Ginger Minj took the victory on All Stars 10 is now the worst rated of all time, and the conversation is showing no signs of slowing down. Now queens from the franchise are taking Drag Race to task, and calling out the show for repeatedly failing to crown a Latin winner when the Latin winner places runner up. Roxxxy Andrews, who was a runner up with fellow Latin queen Vanessa Vanjie Mateo in last year’s All Stars, has called the show out at a viewing party and is receiving major attention for her comments.

Roxxxy did not hold back

Speaking at the Roscoe’s Tavern viewing party, Roxxxy spoke out about how in her view the show is failing to crown enough Latin queens as winner. “Congratulations to Ginger, I’m not taking anything from her or any of the winners of RuPaul’s Drag Race. But I can’t go as a Latin entertainer forward to say there has been one Latin winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, in how many seasons? 17. And 10 All Stars.

“There has only been one Latin winner in all of those seasons. Myself, Jewels Sparkles and Jorgeous have all been runner ups. Nina Flowers. What’s wrong? RuPaul’s Drag Race if you’re watching, I’m not reading the whole family – but what is going on? It’s been too long that a Latin queen and they put the girls from Puerto Rico.

“I’m a Puerto Rican and Latin queen and so is Jewels. If the shoe was on the other foot and there had only been one white girl or one black girl there would have been a big problem. I don’t see why this is being swept under the rug. I feel like Drag Race needs to be paying attention to what it’s doing, and if it’s going to be set up, make it for a Latin queen.”

Naysha Lopez, who is hosting the viewing party at Roscoe’s with Roxxxy in attendance, agrees by saying “We’ve heard production talk about ‘well we need to crown a big girl, we need to crown a white girl, we need to crown a black girl. Guess what they don’t say? We need to crown a Latin girl.’”
