South Africa’s UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis will put his title on the line in the UFC 319 main event on Saturday, 16 August at the United Center in Chicago.
“Stillknocks” will face undefeated Khamzat Chimaev in the first UFC fight card in The Windy City since 2019.
On Tuesday, Du Plessis was in Chicago for the Chicago Cubs vs Cincinnati Reds MLB game at Wrigley Field and threw out the first pitch.
Split decision
Du Plessis won the 185-pound championship in January 2024, defeating then-champion Sean Strickland via split decision.
He defended the title against former two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya before defeating Strickland a second time in a rematch in February.
The 31-year-old South African will enter the fight with Chimaev riding an incredible 11-fight winning streak.
He hasn’t tasted defeat since October 2018.
