The sighting of a drone at Palma de Mallorca airport this Sunday led to the suspension of air traffic for around 35 minutes, causing delays and the diversion of several flights.
According to Enaire — Spain’s air navigation operator — the presence of an unmanned device in the Son Sant Joan airport area forced the immediate interruption of operations for safety reasons.
Aena — the managing body of Spanish airports — reported that eight flights were diverted and that arrivals were suspended while security checks were carried out on the infrastructure.
“Operations were interrupted for 35 minutes as a precaution. After confirming that the situation was under control, the airport resumed normal activity”, said an Aena source.
Enaire later confirmed, on the social network X, that the airport was back to operating “completely normally” and advised passengers to check the status of their flights with the airlines.
