The Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal arrested two suspects in connection with the politically motivated murder of Xolani Ndlovu-Ntombela on the weekend.
Two suspects, aged 55 and 23 years old, are expected to appear before the Howick Magistrate’s Court on 8 September.
Ndlovu-Ntombela was gunned down at his home in Mpophomeni, near Howick, in KwaZulu-Natal in November 2022.
Ndlovu-Ntombela’s death politically related, to land corruption
According to police, the motive for the murder was his investigation into the illegal sale of land in the Emasosheni area. A statement by KwaZulu-Natal police indicates that Ndlovu-Ntombela was about to expose the land corruption incident around the time of his murder.
The two suspects are presently in police custody for allegedly committing other crimes. One suspect is an awaiting trial murder suspect, and the other is undergoing a bail application.
The duo has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.
This breakthrough signifies one of 121 political killing dockets that were recently returned to the Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal.
Provincial Commissioner in KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanzi, praised the Political Killings Task Team and the National Prosecuting Authority for the arrest.
He added that “efforts in solving political killing cases are bearing desired fruits.”
Political killings became a topical issue in July this year when Mkhwanazi made explosive allegations against Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu, other powerful people in the judiciary, and business people for trying to impede investigations into this category of crimes.
