Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson went viral when photos and videos showed him sporting a slimmer physique at the Venice Film Festival.
Johnson was promoting his new movie, The Smashing Machine, and some fans felt the muscle and weight loss rendered him unrecognizable.
Now, the actor has confirmed in a new interview that he lost the muscle mass for a movie role, but it’s not for The Smashing Machine. And he says he’s not done losing.
‘The Rock’ Has Already Lost 30 Pounds of Muscle Mass for ‘The Smashing Machine’
According to Variety, Johnson has shed 30 pounds of muscle already. But he’s not done. It’s all part of the actor’s desire to be seen as a dramatic actor and not remain typecast in action hero roles.
He is losing weight to play a character called The Chicken Man in a movie called Lizard Music, Variety reported, noting that the character is 70 years old.
“The Rock” is “about to undertake another radical transformation” for that role, Variety added.
“I still have a long way to go,” he told Variety.
“I’m so excited to get a chance to hopefully transform again like I was able to do in ‘Smashing Machine,’” Johnson added. “[It means] eating less chicken.”
