When you think of low-cost flights, easyJet is probably one of the first names to come to mind.

The Luton-based airline has built its reputation on making travel affordable, with flights across Europe, to places like Gran Canaria, Valencia and Portugal, for less than the cost of a night out.

Their signature orange branding is hard to miss, and their competitive prices are hard to turn down.

The catch? The fares come with strict luggage rules.

As is standard for budget airlines, easyJet keeps ticket prices low by offering only the essentials. Fail to pay before you reach the gate, and you could land yourself with some pretty hefty charges.

Metro is here to tell you everything you need to know to avoid an awkward repack and what could be a considerable few quid.

EasyJet’s cabin bag size and weight rules for 2025

When you book a standard easyJet seat, your ticket includes one small cabin bag, or ‘personal item’ – think rucksacks, duffels and handbags – that will tuck underneath the seat in front of you.

The allowances for these are as follows:

  • Size limit: 45 x 36 x 20cm, including all handles and wheels. Your bag must fit entirely under the seat ahead of you.
  • Maximum weight: 15kg, and you must be able to lift and carry the bag yourself.

If your bag looks suspiciously bulky, staff may check its dimensions before you board or at the check-in desk.

If it’s too big, you could be charged extra. Buying baggage at the airport costs more than adding it online in advance, so always remind yourself of the rules before you leave the house.

If you’re up for paying a little extra…

If you’ve upgraded your ticket to include a large cabin bag, either by paying for the extra allowance or through an easyJet Plus membership, you’ll have more room to play with:

  • Size limit: 56 x 45 x 25cm, including all handles and wheels. Your bag must fit into the overhead locker.
  • Maximum weight 15kg, and again, you must be able to lift and carry the bag yourself.

If you’re not one for packing light, you can purchase up to three hold bags.

A standard hold bag allows up to 23kg, but if you need extra room, you can buy extra weight in 3kg units, up to a maximum of 32kg per bag.
