TV fans can’t get enough of a gripping thriller that’s finally landed on ITVX and is already shooting into the streaming service’s top 10.
Berlin Station was a US drama that ran for three seasons between 2016 and 2019, starring king of bingeable thrillers, Richard Armitage.
Armitage stars as CIA analyst -turned-field-agent Daniel Miller who arrives in Berlin and is assigned to discover the true identity of a whistleblower going by the name Thomas Shaw.
He’s joined by his old friend and veteran agent Hector DeJean, played by Rhys Ifans.
Critics and audiences were divided by Berlin Station when it was first released. While it boasts an impressive 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB ratings of 7.6 out of 10, critics weren’t as bowled over.
The drama only received a lukewarm 60% Rotten Tomatoes score with critics with the Washington Post calling it ‘boring’.
Variety, however, praised the show’s ‘outstanding cast that takes its reasonably solid storytelling and raises it a few notches through sheer talent and charisma.’
Viewers seemed to agree with the latter.
In a Google audience review, Sourabh Patil said Berlin Station is ‘definitely a go ahead for all the spy thriller fans’.
CISCELYN HISLOP gave the show five stars and said: ‘Berlin Station was a top-of-the-line intense sophisticated intelligent drama filled with a cast of excellent international actors.’
Over on IMDB, one user described the thriller as ‘Extremely riveting with edge of your seat moments.
‘The cast is spectacular and very talented in their roles, it leaves you wanting another season to see where they all end up!’
ITVX’s top 10 is currently a thriller-fest for fans of the genre. While we all wait for the Line of Duty season seven that we’re 99% sure will definitely happen, Adrian Dunbar’s Ridley is currently number one on the streaming service after returning for its second season.
And don’t miss Under The Bridge, the 2024 series starring Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone and Daisy Jones and the Six actor Riley Keough.
Described as a ‘haunting drama inspired by a tragic true story’, we follow ‘A writer and a cop investigate a brutal murder tied to a group of troubled teens.’
‘I thought it was phenomenal and one of the only TV shows I have given a 10/10. I have trouble focusing [while] watching new shows, and I sat through this like a hawk,’ Google reviewer Nevada Sassin said, calling Gladstone’s acting ‘raw and completely real’.
