Héctor “N”, alias “El Chesman”, who is also accused of gang crimes and attacks against peace and physical and property integrity in Chiapas, was linked to the trial for the murder of priest Marcelo Pérez.
Mexico City, October 25 (However).- The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) announced yesterday the connection to the process of Héctor “N”, alias “The Chesman”for his probable responsibility in the murder of Tzotzil priest Marcelo Pérez Pérezon October 20, 2024, in the municipality of San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas.
“The connection to the process is due to the murder of a priest in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapasin October 2024. The victim was a social leader recognized nationally and internationally that sought peace and reconciliation of the peoples in said entity,” the FGR reported in a statement.
The announcement was made known after a public hearing at the Federal Criminal Justice Center with residence in Cintalapa, Chiapas, in which the Federal Public Ministry (MPF), attached to the Special Prosecutor’s Office for the Attention of Crimes Committed against Freedom of Expression (FEADLE), provided sufficient evidence to indicate that “El Chesman” probably participated as the material author in the homicide of Marcelo Pérez.
The involvement of Héctor “N”, who was given informal preventive detention and six months for a complementary investigation, was added to the final sentence of the FGR against Edgar “M”, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the same case. However, “the investigation remains open against other possible participants in the events that resulted in the deprivation of the victim’s life,” explained the Prosecutor’s Office.
The priest Marcelo Pérez Pérez, who was recognized for his activism in Simojovel, Pantelhó and San Cristóbal de las Casas, in the Altos de Chiapas, was murdered on October 20, 2024 while leaving mass in the temple in the Cuxtitali neighborhood, where some individuals on board a motorcycle shot him with a firearm.
Three days after the murder of the priest of the Church of Guadalupe, in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Edgar “M” was arrested, identified as the material author of the murder of the religious. However, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison only on August 6, 2025.
“The Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, through the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Human Rights (FEMDH), obtained a conviction against Edgar ‘M’, for having fully accredited his responsibility as the material author in the crime of homicide qualified with premeditation, treachery and advantage,” the FGR reported on August 6.

While on October 23, the Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest of Héctor “N” in San Cristóbal de las Casas, who was identified as the leader of a criminal group called “Los Motonetos”, which intimidated the inhabitants of this community “by requesting money in exchange for allowing the passage of the products they transported to sell, since when the victims refused they were subject to physical attacks or damage to their vehicles.”
“Elements of the Ministerial Investigation and Intelligence Agency and the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force group executed an arrest warrant against Héctor ‘N’, alias ‘El Chesman’, as allegedly responsible for the crimes of gang activity and attacks against peace and the physical and property integrity of the community and the state, committed to the detriment of society, for events that occurred on October 7, 2023, in San Cristóbal de Las Casas,” the agency said in a statement.
