SAN FRANCISCO / LONDON (IT BOLTWISE) – Elon Musk plans to launch X Chat, a new messaging platform that relies on peer-to-peer encryption. This is intended to work similarly to Bitcoin and promises secure communication without advertising hooks. The platform will be available both as a standalone app and integrated into X.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recently announced plans to launch X Chat, a new messaging platform based on peer-to-peer encryption. This technology is reminiscent of Bitcoin’s security mechanisms and aims to make communications as secure as possible. Musk emphasized that the platform will not contain advertising hooks that could potentially compromise the security of the messages.
In an interview on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’, Musk explained that X Chat built the entire messaging infrastructure from the ground up. He argued that security should not be viewed as binary but in ‘degrees of uncertainty’. The goal is to make X Chat the ‘least insecure’ messaging app. The encryption technology is currently being intensively tested to ensure the highest security standards.
A central element of Musk’s approach is avoiding advertising hooks, which can pose a security risk on many competing messengers. These hooks, if abused, could serve as a gateway for reading messages. X Chat, on the other hand, will do without such mechanisms, which significantly reduces the attack surface.
The distribution of X Chat will take place in two ways: firstly as a standalone app, which should be available in the coming months, and secondly as an integrated function within the In both versions, users will be able to send text messages, share files, and make audio and video calls once all features are implemented. Currently in beta for Premium subscribers, X Chat already supports text, photos, media attachments, and file sharing.
Musk’s vision for X Chat is based on two main principles: end-to-end encryption of content and minimizing the data the service needs to know by eliminating advertising targeting logic. While many mainstream messengers encrypt the content but retain metadata such as communication partners and timestamps, Musk sees reducing reliance on advertising as a key advantage in reducing the attack surface.
