Some fans are willing to do almost anything to score free tickets to an early movie screening. An early screening for Emma Stone’s latest film, Bugonia, gave moviegoers the chance at a free entry, but only if they shaved their heads.
A few days earlier, guidelines for the free entry were posted online, stating that it was a special screening “for anyone who is bald.” Any fan who was willing to arrive at the early screening and shave their head on site would also get an entry.
The concept of going bald is in homage to Stone’s character in the movie. In the role of Michelle Fuller, the character is a high-powered CEO of a major company.
She’s kidnapped by two conspiracy obsessed characters who believe she is an alien hellbent on destroying Earth. In the trailer and promos for the movie, they shave the head of Stone’s character.
On Oct. 20 at the Culver Theater, dozens of fans lined up for the Bugonia screening. Some were on board with saying goodbye to their locks, with a professional barber on site with clippers in hand. According to The New York Post, roughly 25 moviegoers sat in the barber’s chair and got their hair buzzed.

Disney employee Matthew Lopez had been growing his hair out for over a year, but told The Post he was more than willing to get a free haircut and movie ticket.
“A lot of my co-workers are asking me, why am I doing that? Because they love how my hair
was before. But I just told them, I’ve done this before. It’s a free movie that I’ve been waiting for,” he explained.
Freelance actor Rita Frenzel also took advantage of the unique opportunity as she regularly buzzes her hair. She saw a free haircut and ticket as a win.
Bugonia isn’t the first movie to have a unique early screening experience. Stephen King’s The Long Walk also advertised a special screening where moviegoers had to walk on a treadmill for the entire movie. If they stopped at any point, they had to leave the screening.
Bugonia releases in theaters on October 24, 2025.
