Manchester United are one of three Premier League clubs to hold talks with an England international after he sacked his agent, according to reports.

The 2025/26 Premier League season kicks-off this weekend with reigning champions Liverpool vs Bournemouth on Friday night, while United host Arsenal on Sunday.

United are looking to bounce back after their worst-ever Premier League season where they finished 15th in the table and missed out on European football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

The Red Devils’ transfer business this summer has been all focused on improving their blunt attack, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko joining for a combined £195million.

But they are still a little thin on forward options after Marcus Rashford was loaned to Barcelona, while Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho have been told to leave Old Trafford.

Rasmus Hojlund could also depart before deadline day with AC Milan interested in signing the struggling striker, meaning Ruben Amorim may want another centre-forward, ideally one who won’t break the bank.

And he may be closing in on his man, with talkSPORT reporting that free agent Dominic Calvert-Lewin has personally held talks with Manchester United, as well as Newcastle United and Leeds United.

The 28-year-old left Everton upon the expiry of his contract in June but is no closer to finding his new club and has now sacked his agent in the hopes of getting a transfer done soon.

It is thought the 11-cap England international is hoping to join a team as high up the table as possible but it is unlikely he will sign for anyone before the new season begins.

Calvert-Lewin had starred for the Toffees since 2016 and was one of the deadliest strikers in the Premier League from 2019 to 2021, scoring 36 goals in 80 games across two seasons.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin Everton stats

Appearances: 273

Goals: 71

Assists: 22

His form earned him a place in the Three Lions squad that reached the Euro 2020 final and to date he has four goals for his country, though he has not been capped since 2021.

Injuries have severely limited his impact of late however, finding the back of the net just three times in 26 appearances last season.

Newcastle have been consistently linked with Calvert-Lewin and are in the market for two No.9s with Alexander Isak’s future at St. James Park up in the air, while Leeds are looking for an experienced goalscorer to help them avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.
