Friday evening update: Tonight will bring another round of clear and crisp conditions, with lows dipping into the 40s. Saturday will stay pleasant with mostly sunny skies, light winds, and highs in the low to mid-70s. Just remember that humidity will drop below 25% again Saturday afternoon keeping fire danger elevated across the region. Avoid outdoor burning, as dry fuels and light winds could allow flames to spread quickly.
By late Sunday, changes begin to move in. Round 1 of wet weather arrives Sunday night into Monday as a low-pressure system drifts in from the west, spreading clouds and steady showers across the CSRA. Most areas will see a soaking rain, and while widespread storms aren’t expected, an isolated rumble of thunder can’t be ruled out.
Then comes the wedge… that familiar cold-air damming setup that often brings damp, dreary days to our region. On Monday and Tuesday, cooler air will slide down from the north and get trapped near the ground. Expect a noticeable drop in temperatures, with highs stuck in the upper-50s to low-60s and a chilly breeze adding to the raw feel. Rain, mist, and low clouds will linger, making it feel more like late fall than October.
Round 2 arrives Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing another batch of scattered showers. This wave looks weaker and won’t have as much moisture to work with, but it’ll keep skies gray and conditions cool through midweek. Rainfall totals through the week should generally be around an inch, though a few spots may see closer to two. While this won’t be enough to erase our growing rainfall deficits, it will help take the edge off our dry conditions.
And for those already eyeing the candy bowl… Halloween next Friday is looking like a mixed big with morning showers and afternoon sunshine. Highs will be in the mid-60s with temperatures slipping into the upper 50s as the kids head out to trick-or-treat in the evening. No tricks from Mother Nature, just a treat of classic fall chill across the CSRA.
