In quite a random pop culture twist of events, Lana Del Rey decided to start beef with Ethel Cain today. At first I thought it was all in jest and good fun, but it appears not to be the case. Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain have a lot of crossover in those that love their music – me included – and now the beef is ramping up after Ethel responded to the whole saga on her story. There are a lot of people wondering what might have happened, but there is some key lore that people may have missed on why Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain are having messy beef right now.
First of all, Lana has posted a new song teaser mentioning Ethel in the lyrics

Lana Del Rey has long been teasing her next album that has been hit with multiple delays, but now she’s just teased what she states is track 13. She also tagged Jack Antonoff as being her collaborator on it, and the snippet features lyrics that have kinda gagged everyone. The very first line says “Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post / Think it’s cute reenacting my Chicago pose”.
People think this is in reference to how Ethel Cain and Lana Del Rey both have similar photos taken with Jack Donoghue. Donoghue is Lana Del Rey’s ex boyfriend, and he’s a member of the underground music duo Salem.
There’s no evidence that Ethel Cain and Jack Donoghue ever dated officially, though.
The lyrics then get even more shady
Further lyrics in the song, which some on Twitter are claiming is called All About Ethel (but take that with a pinch of salt) say “The most famous girl at the Waffle House / I don’t regret it / The most famous girl at the Waffle House.” This is being taken as a dig at Ethel Cain who when profiled by The New York Times featured in an article with the headline “The most famous girl at the Waffle House”. Lana also had a stunt in 2023 where she worked at a Waffle House.

Anyone thinking it was just the silly little lyrics were then caught off guard by Ethel Cain addressing it on her Instagram story and declaring Lana Del Rey had blocked her.
Some desperate fans on the Reddit discussing it are clinging to the pipe dream it all might be a big plot leading to a collab. maybe they can work it out on the remix?
