Ethereum, one of the leading blockchain platforms, is preparing for a significant upgrade called Fusaka, which is scheduled to launch on the mainnet on December 3rd. This upgrade aims to significantly improve the scalability and security of the network by integrating several Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). The final testing phase on the Hoodi testnet went smoothly, paving the way for implementation on the mainnet.
A key element of the Fusaka upgrade is the introduction of Peer Data Availability Sampling (PeerDAS) via EIP-7594. This feature allows validators to read smaller pieces of data on Layer 2 networks rather than full blocks of data, significantly increasing node efficiency. Additionally, the upgrade includes EIP-7825 and EIP-7935, which aim to increase the gas limit and improve efficiency as Ethereum prepares to unlock parallel execution.
The technical development takes place in a three-stage process: First, the actual mainnet launch takes place, followed by the activation of the EIP to increase the blob capacity, and finally the second blob capacity hard fork comes into force. These moves are part of Ethereum’s broader strategy known as “Surge,” which aims to improve the scalability of the network.
The launch of Fusaka comes amid a leadership change at the Ethereum Foundation, which has seen several key people leave the company and criticize the foundation’s direction. Despite these internal challenges, Ether has reached an all-time high this year, driven by increasing inflows into exchange-traded funds and increased adoption in corporate treasuries.
