Primev’s introduction of FAST RPC technology marks a significant advancement for the Ethereum blockchain. This new technology allows transactions to be confirmed in less than 200 milliseconds, which represents a significant acceleration compared to current methods. This could position Ethereum in competition with other high-speed blockchains such as Sui, which also offer fast transaction confirmations.
FAST RPC, developed by Primev, is a remote procedure call technology that allows transactions to be pre-confirmed and prepared for inclusion in blocks. This pre-confirmation is an early signal from a block builder that a transaction is likely to be included in the next block. For users, this means near-instant confirmation of their transactions, which is particularly beneficial when interacting with smart contracts and minting NFTs.
The technology was developed by Murat Akdeniz and his team, who have worked for over two years to bring Ethereum to these speeds. In a live demonstration, Akdeniz showed how an ETH transaction via the Ethereum wallet MetaMask was pre-confirmed and recorded in the same block in just 377 milliseconds. This shows the potential of FAST RPC to significantly improve the user experience on the Ethereum blockchain.
Although FAST RPC has not yet been tested on a large scale, it offers a promising alternative to the currently most commonly used RPCs on Ethereum, such as Infura and Alchemy. While these have a larger node distribution and have been tested under heavier network loads, they are slower than Primev’s solution. For users who want to stay on the Ethereum mainnet, FAST RPC could offer faster transaction processing.
Integrating FAST RPC is relatively simple and can be done by connecting to a crypto wallet such as MetaMask or WalletConnect. Users simply need to replace Infura or Alchemy’s RPC with FAST RPC and deposit funds into Primev’s “gas tank” to be able to interact on the blockchain. This ease of integration could further encourage adoption of the technology.
