Ex-Orlando Pirates star says Amakhosi have signed great players

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mpho Makola believes the Betway Premiership giants have sacrificed two quality players, and to Kaizer Chiefs’ benefit.

The fullback duo of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane will wear gold and black next season, after leaving Orlando Pirates as free agents.

The two players will compete with Kaizer Chiefs’ existing full-backs Reeve Frosler, Dillan Solomons, Edmilson Dove, and Bradley Cross.

“It’s unfortunate that they left Orlando Pirates. I rate them highly; they are exceptional players in terms of character and quality,” Makola said via FARPost.

“The level of competition at the team [Pirates] is high, but that does not mean they are not good enough. Some players will obviously be sacrificed.

“I know for sure that Chiefs will get more from these boys. They will bring more competition to the team. From the way I see it, they are still going to face the same positional competition at Chiefs.

“A team like Chiefs needs those kinds of players, those that have the mindset of winners and the never-say-die attitude. It’s a master stroke move,” Makola added.

SOLID EXPERIENCE AT ORLANDO PIRATES

Paseka Mako, 31, who joined the Buccaneers from Chippa United in 2018, played 173 games for the Sea Robbers. The Zebediela-born defender also became a Bafana Bafana international in 2023 before a long-term injury.

Meanwhile, Thabiso Monyane, aged 25, has never played for another Betway Premiership club other than Orlando Pirates. He was promoted from the juniors in 2019 before making 95 appearances wearing the famous black and white strip.

With such Betway Premiership proven experience, we can expect the duo to make an instant impact at Kaizer Chiefs.

DID ORLANDO PIRATES MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION TO PART WAYS WITH PASEKA MAKO AND THABISO MONYANE?
