Exclusive: ‘Strange New Worlds’ Clip Teases Hilarious New Star Trek Dilemma

Since the very beginning of Star Trek, back in 1966, one of the coolest ideas in the franchise has been the super-smart race of pointy-eared aliens known as the Vulcans. Like Sherlock Holmes, but way ruder, and with fewer vices, Vulcans, like Spock, are both heroic and maddeningly logical. But what would happen if a bunch of humans were transformed into Vulcans? In the newest episode of Strange New Worlds — streaming this week on Paramount+ — that’s exactly what happens.

Men’s Journal is pumped to present an exclusive clip from this very funny and very unique episode, which reveals a problem the beloved sci-fi franchise has never quite tackled. What if someone got turned into a Vulcan and actually kinda liked it?

Strange New Worlds Season 3, Episode 8 Exclusive Clip

In the new scene from Episode 8, “Four-and-a-Half Vulcans,” several crew members of the Enterprise go undercover as Vulcans for a very specific mission. But that’s not the main thrust of the episode; instead, the problem is that by accident, Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Ensign Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), and La’an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) are all stuck in their Vulcan form, even though they’re all normally humans.

In the new clip, Dr. M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun) and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) wrestle with the question of what to do with their new Vulcan crewmates until the problem is fixed. The solution? Let’s just say it’s complicated.

The episode also guest stars Patton Oswalt in a surprising role.
