Last week, authorities made a rather grim discovery at an impound lot in Los Angeles as they found the decomposing and dismembered body of a 15-year-old girl in the trunk of a car belonging to 20-year-old musician D4vd.
While there have since been several details appearing to link the victim, who has since been identified as Celeste Rivas, to the singer, D4vd has not yet been arrested, brought in for questioning, or even publicly listed as a suspect in the case, and one expert explains why.
What We Know So Far
- A decomposing body was found inside a Tesla belonging to musician D4vd at an impound lot in Hollywood on Sept. 8.
- The car was brought to the impound lot after “someone reported it abandoned” in Hollywood Hills, and police were called after workers “reported a strong odor” coming from the Tesla.
- The Tesla was never reported as stolen.
- The body was discovered inside a bag in the Tesla’s front trunk. The remains were not intact and had badly decomposed.
- The remains were so decomposed that it took authorities more than a week to identify the body.
- The remains were eventually identified as 15-year-old Celeste Rivas.
- D4vd has a matching tattoo with Rivas, and her mother said she has been missing for over a year and that her daughter’s boyfriend was named David.
- D4vd initially decided to continue his world tour while cooperating with the investigation, but he cancelled the remainder of his tour on Wednesday.
- An unreleased love song written by D4vd references someone by the name of “Celeste” in the unfinished title and twice in the lyrics.
- Police raided a home connected to D4vd as they continue the investigation.
Evidence Linking D4vd to Celeste Rivas
Shortly after the body found in D4vd’s Tesla was identified, information began to surface that appeared to link the 15-year-old girl to the singer.
The same day the victim was identified, Rivas’ mother spoke to TMZ, where she explained that her daughter had been missing for over a year, and she grew suspicious about the body found in the Tesla since she knew her daughter’s boyfriend was named David.
Additionally, TMZ confirmed that Rivas and D4vd both have a tattoo that says “Shhh…” on their right index fingers, though the singer’s tattoo appears to be in black ink, while Rivas’ mother said that her daughter’s tattoo is in red ink.
On Wednesday, an unreleased song written by D4vd that originally leaked back in 2023 resurfaced. The song appears to be a love song about someone by the name of “Celeste,” mentioning the name in the title and multiple times in the lyrics.
Several photos and videos have also surfaced on social media, appearing to show D4vd and Rivas together, though none of those photos have been confirmed. Additionally, screenshots of chats from a Discord channel appear to show the singer talking to someone by the name of Celeste, though the validity of those screenshots have not been confirmed, either.
D4vd Has Not Been Arrested
Despite the body being found in his car and the evidence that appears to link D4vd to the victim, the artist has not been arrested or even officially named a suspect in the case. In fact, until Wednesday, D4vd was even continuing his World Tour.
While this might come as a surprise to some people, ABC News contributor and legal expert Brian Buckmire joined Good Morning America this week to explain the delay.
“A lot of people are going to be asking the very obvious question of ‘Why hasn’t D4vd been brought in at least for questioning?'” he said during an appearance on GMAthis week.
The answer is quite simple: law enforcement simply does not have enough answers to be able to move forward with confronting the singer.
“Law enforcement does not have the answers they want in order to be able to confront or question D4vd,” Buckmire said. “Especially without an autopsy report as to the cause and manner of death.”
As of now, D4vd has not been arrested, charged, or even listed as a suspect in the death of the 15-year-old girl. Representatives for the singer have maintained that he will continue to fully cooperate with the investigation.
