The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (SLEEP) will deploy an operation starting this Friday morning to dismantle around 200 points identified for the illegal extraction and sale of water. The actions are aimed at social organizations with a union facade, which They are allegedly dedicated to the clandestine exploitation of wells and the marketing of liquid at rates considered abusive..
According to ministerial sources, the operation will be carried out simultaneously in 48 municipalities of the State of Mexico, in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the Navy, the National Guard (GN), the Secretariat of Security of the State of Mexico (SSEM), the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the National Water Commission (Conagua) and the Water Commission of the State of Mexico (CAEM).
Among the unions identified by the authorities as responsible for the illicit trade are the Union of National Unions and Organizations (USON), the Alliance of Motor Carriers, Merchants and Anexas of Mexico (Acme), Los 300, Libertad, 25 de Marzo and La Chokiza, among others. These groups are accused of hoarding water, extracting it clandestinely and distributing it for profit, affecting the population and the legal control of the resource.
The FGJEM operation, called Operation to Combat Illicit Water Profit, seeks to interrupt the illegal marketing chain through searches and inspections that secure wells and clandestine extraction networks. The Mexican prosecutor’s office has various investigation files and citizen complaints that support the action and will allow the prosecution of those responsible.
The authorities highlighted that the deployment has a double objective: to stop the illegal sale of water and to guarantee the protection of water resources in the State of Mexico. Coordination between federal, state and municipal agencies will allow the operation to cover as many points as possible, seeking to significantly reduce the operation of these illicit networks.
With this measure, the FGJEM intends to send a message that illegal water exploitation will be firmly prosecuted, protecting both users and the State’s natural resources.
