Explosion and fire in a well-known restaurant near the Monument of the Revolution in CDMX

MEXICO CITY.- Some 500 people were evacuated on Friday after explosion of a gas tank in the restaurant ‘La Soldadera’which generated a fire that destroyed a building in front of the emblematic monument to the Revolution in Mexico City, without serious injuries, according to local authorities.

The mayor of Cuauhtémoc, Alejandra Rojo de la Vega, He explained that approximately 500 people were evacuated from the premises and nearby buildings, where intervention teams are reviewing possible damage to the structures.

The explosion occurred when A gas tank failed and caused a fire. that spread through the Tabacalera neighborhood property, where several neighborhoods later reported power outages.

“A leak was recorded in an LP gas combustion room heater, and a subsequent fire. Two tables, a tarp, chairs and the filth accumulated in the extraction hood were burned,” detailed the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of the capital.

Nails 200 people were evacuated immediately and the fire was controlled by city firefighters and civil protection agents, according to the first reports.

Videos broadcast on media and social networks show the moment of the explosion, where a flash of flame illuminates the sidewalk and surrounding buildings, covering the front of the building and leaving a column of smoke.
