In a story that is almost too bizarre to be true, the Cleveland Browns are set to wear an alternate uniform this weekend when they play the Green Bay Packers.
That is not the strange part, though.
Alternate uniforms are very common now in all pro sports, even for teams with long traditions such as the Browns (or Packers, for that matter).
The notable aspect of this particular garb is the color and the sponsor.
Cleveland’s football team will be in all brown this week thanks to Dude Wipes.
Yes, you read that right: The Browns are set to take the field against the Packers looking like the stuff their sponsor is meant to eliminate.
Here is the official description from the team:
The helmet features a matte all-brown shell, with a brown stripe between two orange stripes in the middle and an all-brown facemask. This will be the first time in the history of the organization that a brown helmet will be worn.
Furthering the irony, the team released this quote from executive vie president JW Johnson with their announcement:
“‘Alpha Dawg’ embodies what we set out to be as the Cleveland Browns, the leaders of the pack. We’re excited about this new alternate helmet and the ode it pays to the rich history of the color brown as part of our organization, switching it up from our iconic orange helmets.”
— JW Johnson
So not only is one of the few teams never to make the Super Bowl set to dress in all brown for the first time thanks to the sponsorship of a company that makes cleaning up certain messes a priority, they also want us to know this is really who they are.
Not surprisingly, Dude Wipes is all for it.
“As the kings of keeping things clean, we’re here to back the Browns as they embrace a bold new look this season with the launch of their all-brown alternate helmets,” Dude Wipes co-founder Ryan Meegan said in a press release.
Whether or not the new duds inspire the Browns get their first victory of the season remains to be seen, but a few people on social media did notice the irony of the sponsor.
There’s no shot an all brown Browns uniform is sponsored by Dude Wipes

If you miss the alternate uniforms this week, don’t worry: The Browns are set to bring their brown uniforms back Oct. 19 against the Miami Dolphins and again Dec. 7 against the Tennessee Titans.
The Browns have worn all-brown uniforms before with their traditional helmets, but a 2022 rule change made adding the brown helmet an option.
