It was on March 17, 2023 that the Benfica Foundation ea FLH Hotels from the Feelslikehome group signed a partnership agreement for the revitalization of the former headquarters building of Sport Lisboa and Benficaon Rua Jardim do Regedor. The building, a historical heritage site, was donated by the club to the Benfica Foundation, “to guarantee adequate heritage to fulfill its mission, in Portugal and in the world”, it was announced during the signing of the partnership that gave rise to the 1904 Benfica Hotel.
Rui Costa, President of Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Fundação Benfica, was the one who signed the document. It now remains to wait for the second round of elections, on November 8, to find out whether he or João Noronha Lopes will cut the ribbon on the inauguration day, scheduled for January 2026.
Even before the official ribbon cutting, the 1904 Benfica Hotel opens under a soft opening during the month of December 2025.
1904 Benfica Hotel
O 1904 Benfica Hotel has as its concept the history of Sport Lisboa and Benfica and invokes the collective memory of the club’s members and fans regarding its former headquarters. There will be 56 rooms and next to the door of each of them, there will be a niche that will be decorated with specific pieces from Benfica’s past and present.
On the first floor, a restaurant and a multipurpose room were created, primarily for guests’ leisure, but which could also be adapted for conferences and Club events. The ex-libris of this floor will be the bar in the concept of an English pub from the beginning of the 20th century, a space where, they announced in the presentation, “Benfica will breathe, with photographs of former athletes and a huge symbol of the Club on the ceiling”.

The top two floors of the 1904 Benfica Hotelwere built from scratch, with the aim of providing guests with a “magnificent view of the São Jorge Castle and Rua das Portas de Santo Antão”, assures the developer.
The transformation is the responsibility of GV+Arquitectoswho, in explaining the project, highlights that, “at the entrance, the building’s identity needed to be preserved. It was essential to maintain the spirit of the past that marked generations of Benfica fans. We maintained the original lines and introduced subtle elements of modernity, creating a welcoming space that celebrates the past, but invites the present”.

At the 1904 Benfica Hotel bar, inspired by English pubs, “the challenge was to create an environment that breathes tradition and honors the Club’s history. We designed an intimate and iconic bar, decorated with photographs of memorable moments and a ceiling where the Benfica emblem takes center stage. A space designed to connect emotion and design.” In the bedroom corridors, “every detail was designed to reflect Benfica’s memory. We created personalized niches next to the doors, where objects from the past and present tell stories. Each corridor is an invitation to delve into the identity and essence of the Club”, continues the description. On the top two floors, “the challenge was to create something new, without forgetting the historical context. We designed large, contemporary spaces, with incredible views of São Jorge Castle and Rua das Portas de Santo Antão. A meeting between historic Lisbon and the vibrant rhythm of the city.”
