First picture of ‘family-loving man’ shot dead near children’s playground

The family of a ‘humble and god-worshipping’ man who was gunned down near a park in south London have paid tribute to him after his death.

Kyrone Moodie, 27, was ambushed and fatally shot in New Park Road, Clapham on Monday. 

Neighbours heard five shots ring out with a second man also suffering gun wounds. He has since been discharged from hospital.

No arrests have been made. 

A statement from Kyrone’s family said: ‘Kyrone was a loving family man. He was genuine and determined. He helped everyone he could. Kyrone was just a humble, funny and god-worshipping family orientated man.’

Witnesses described how shots were fired outside a playground leaving two wounded on the ground. 

A mother of a 12-year old son, who lives on the estate, told Metro: ‘I heard at least five shots. Then there was a boy shouting “I’ve been shot, call an ambulance.” He was on the ground with people helping him, he was the one who didn’t die. 

Met detectives have launched a murder investigation following a double shooting in Clapham in which one man sadly died. On Monday, 8 September at 20:50hrs police were called to reports of a shooting on New Park Road, Clapham.

‘There was another guy nearer the playground he was lifeless. It’s totally shocking. 

‘One of the boys hit wasn’t even from around here he was just friends with the wrong people.’

A nearby resident told Metro: ‘There were at least five shots. Very loud and one after another like from a handgun. Then the police arrived fast, it was panic stations, just horrible.’

Forensics teams combed the area for clues and collected bullet casings. Detectives are analysing cctv footage from around the area as they hunt the killer. 

A police statement said: ‘Police were called at 20:50hrs to reports of a shooting on New Park Road, Clapham.

‘Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service who treated Kyrone and a 20-year-old man for gunshot wounds before taking them to hospital.

‘Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Kyrone sadly died in hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, 9 September.

‘His family continue to receive support from specialist officers.’
